Please pray for Bishop Walter Mixa who has tendered his resignation to Pope Benedict XVI after a prolonged media campaign to get him removed after allegations of hitting children,which he denied and misuse of funds which is being investigated.

Nightfever Service for young people in the Cathedral with Bishop of Augsburg Dr.Walter Mixa





    On Sunday 9th September Bishop Dr. Walter Mixa,Bishop of Augsburg & Bishop to the German Military,visited Füssen.





3 year old,Maximilian Rosenthal-English meets Bishop Walter.

The 66 year old Bishop arrives outside St Mang Basilica escorted by Monsignor Karlheinz Knebel,Parish Priest of Füssen and Regional Dean,and his  secretaries. Bishop Walter was Monsignor Knebel's first Parish Priest after he was ordained.Bishop Walter has been a Priest since 27th June 1970.He was appointed Bishop of Eichstätt on 24th February 1996 and ordained Bishop  23rd March 1996.On the 31st August 2000 he was appointed Bishop of the German Forces. On 16th July 2005 he was appointed Bishop of Augsburg.He was installed Bishop on 1st October 2005.He has been a great defender of the family.Many have criticised him for this.Many parents have welcomed what he said about childcare dispite other Liberal German Bishops not agreeing with him.May he continue to bring the Good News of Christ to us all in this Diocese for a long time.

Bishop Walter is introduced to 3rd Mayor,Dr.Anni Derday who represented the civic authorities at the book presentation.

Inside the Basilica were a group of Italian pilgrims to St Mang.They were delighted to meet His Excellency.

The artist,Erwin Wiegerling arrives for the  book presentation in the Basilica.

Monsignor Knebel shows the Bishop the new doors and windows representing the Liturgical year of the church,made by the artist,Erwin Wiegerling.

The Artist waiting to take his place for the presentation of his new book "Lichtspuren"(Light Waves).It covers the work he has carried out on St Mang Basilica in the past 20 years.

Monsignor welcomes all to the presentation.He describes some of the works of art that can be found in the Basilica.Bishop Walter looks  up keenly to take in his surroundings.

One can sense the contentment in Monsignor's face that all is going smoothly!

The event was covered by TV Allgäu television,Regional daily papers and the Catholic papers in Deutschland as well as the Parish website.
