Holy Ghost Hospital Church
Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos would have known this church very well.It is on the same road as the house where he was born!
(HOLYDAY OF OBLIGATION)
The Patronal Mass for the Heilige Gheist Spitalkirche is celebrated on the Monday after Pentecost. In our Diocese of Augsburg this is also a Holy Day of Obligation.
A tradition in Lower Bavaria,South Tirol and Switzerland is that on this day the boundaries of the Parish are walked and earth and water blessed.Prayers are said for the earth and soil to produce many crops and God is thanked and praised for all that He has given us in Nature. We pray that He will protect us from Hail,Thunder and other natural catastrophes and disasters. It is similar to the Rogation Masses still celebrated in this rural area.
The Service starts in St Mang Basilica at 0800hrs.The Priest uses a blessing from 1693,said in Latin, to bless some earth and some water. Here in St Mang the Staff of St Mang is held by the priest during the procession. The Deacon carries a holy relic of one of the saints to bless people and parts of the Parish during the procession.
The Procession leaves St Mang and goes up the hill past the Higher Castle which used to belong to the Bishops of Augsburg centuries ago.It moves into the tree garden where we stop for prayer. The Blessed Earth is sprinkled on the ground and the ground blessed with the Holy water.
The procession then goes down by the Presbytery and Parish Ofices and along by the Morisse Carpark.Just before the carpark it turns left to Bad Faulenbach.Outside St Max Chapel we once again stop for prayer and blessings.
The procession then goes down the hill past St Ulrich guesthouse and towards the River Lech.At the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Grotto of Our Blessed Lord the procession stops for the third time.
After more prayers and blessing we process along the footpath beside the Lech until we reach the path which goes round the bottom of St Mang Basilica and leads to the Spitalkirche.Once in the Spitalkirche the Mass begins.
After Mass the Procession goes past the former Benedictine Monastery of St Mang and back to the Basilica.
