Pentecost Monday
BLESSING OF THE FRUITS OF THE EARTH PROCESSION-FÜSSEN

Pentecost Monday is a Holy Day of Obligation in the Augsburg Diocese.

It is also the day when here in Füssen local tradition means the Procession around part of the Parish praying for abundant Blessings on the Fruits of the Earth.

At 0730hrs Father Frank Deuring blessed some soil and Holy water at the Altar of St Mang.

Holding the Staff of St Mang, Father Deuring,(Dean of Füssen and Parish Priest of St Mang),  and the servers fell in behind the cross for the 1st part of the procession up by the Hohes Schloss and into the Baumgarten.

Here we stop and pray for God`s blessing and listen to a reading from the Gospel.Father Deuring then take some of the earth and sprinkles it around.

Then he blesses the ground with Holy water,Finally he blesse all with the Magnus Staff. It is believed that This origionated with St Mang who blessed the soil when he was alive so that the local community would always have food enough to eat.

This is repeated at the Moritz Platz,St Ulrich Center for workers of the Diocese on holiday and at the Marian Grotto by the River Lech.   The procession then moved on to the Spitalkirche where the Patronal Mass of the Church was celebrated. After Mass the procession went back to St Mang Basilica.

BASILICA FORECOURT-LOCAL COUNCIL-THE SAGA CONTINUES! (13 June 2009)
The continueing saga of what to do about the Basilica forecourt has rumbled into its 22nd year. The local council have looked at it every year since 1987 and then decide they have not enough money to do anything so it gets left. One wonders what it would look like if they had the money to improve it!Personally we here at the English website think it looks just great as it is.As part of the old city it would not look so good if it looked 21st century style with concrete or some other material. We will update you again next year!

SWISS CHOIR ROLL INTO ST MANG

On Saturday 20th June 2009,the choir from Rotenburg/Lucerne in Switzerland rolled into town.We were fortunate to have them signing at the 1800hrs Mass where their distinct vocal style was much appreciated.

They did not use organ accompaniment instead the conductor sang the note required and the choir then sang what sounded like a mixture of Isreali peace songs and then some hymns in their distinctive Swiss-German dialect.

The Priest who accompanied the group concelebrated the Mass with Father Julius Kreuzer, our curate here in the Parish.Father Kreuzer thanked the choir for enhancing our liturgical celebration.
